Anyone for Tea?

I've been reminded this evening that I haven't updated this in a good while; partly due to coursework, and mostly due to the car boot sales here being closed over the colder months...I don't blame them, even I struggle going when its as cold and wet as it has been!

But, I still have time to pop to the local charity shops now and then!  The RSPCA shop in Dorchester always seems to have the most beautiful jewellery...and some genuinely lovely staff.

How beautiful are these ceramic coffee, tea & sugar jars!?  Loving them, and at £5 for the set, I think them a real bargain! :)
See, this is my earring haul of late, all bar one from the RSPCA.  The three pairs on right are 925 silver...the lot cost about £20.  I wish I had more ears...

Random Recycling Tip #1

Facial cleansing wipes as nail polish removers.
  • Use your face wipe (as I wear pretty much only eyeliner and mascara, I can get about 6 uses out of one wipe)
  • Leave it flat to dry for a couple of hours - it works much better dry than using it damp with remover
  • Use it with nail polish remover as you would cotten wool!  Its much the same as using those
'Quickies' pads...but much cheaper, and I think it's better at removing the polish too :)

Redheads Can't Wear Red, Right? Wrong.

I was browsing a couple of blogs recently, and I'm really loving the bright red lip look for the holiday season.  I'm not a fan of lipstick at all generally, I think I only have two besides this red one.  I find most of them dry my lips quite badly, and look too 'done up' on me.  I've stuck for years with black eyeliner smudged out with black eyeshadow, a bit of blusher, and lip balm.  But I decided, eventually, on trying this red by Kate Moss for Rimmel, in 01 (I actually bought this full price!).  I only applied the lipstick to the middle of my lips, then blended outwards, giving a nice slightly smudgy look but keeping the red. Its a great consistency for this, really creamy and doesn't dry my lips at all.  Even after hours, while it had worn a little, I just put balm over the top and it still looked great, so it was more like a stain.  I really like it, and I've been wearing the look a lot this past week.

Wearing red, as a redhead, gets me a lot of comments, and as far a I can remember they've all been positive.  I have several red dresses, a red cardigan, red leather brogues, even a red pair of specs!  Obviously though, I don't wear them all at the same time!  So don't let anyone tell you you can't wear red as a redhead, it might just take a little longer to find the right one :)

Buttons & Brogues

Winter, as everyone knows, means big chunky knitwear :)  I have a bit of an obsession with oversized cable knit things at the moment, especially heavy cream cardigans with old leather buttons.  I'm forever finding gorgeous cardigans (and buying all of them) in charity shops / car boots / ASOS Marketplace/ Etsy, and then having to find enough old matching leather buttons to replace the ones the cardigan came with.  Both of these originally had cream plastic buttons...I just love how the cream & leather looks.

Then I found a beautiful raspberry cardigan on ASOS Marketplace (I've since branched out into other coloured cardigans too).  The oxblood / maroon / dark red trend that is around this winter is one of my favorite colours.  But my lovely new cardigan had horrible plastic metal-look buttons.  And they were small, and there was 9 of them - an akward number of buttons to replace!

Finally I found the perfect buttons in a charity shop in Dorchester - material covered, cream with red flowers!  What do you think? :)

I didn't pick up much at Yeovil Showground Car Boot this past weekend, but I did get lots of compliments on my big brown hat.  One woman asked if it was Laura Ashley, as it was just like one she'd bought for £60-odd years ago.  There's no label in it so I don't have an answer, but I did tell her I'd bought it for 50p at the same car boot the week before ;)

Favorite finds:
Macadamia Healing Oil Hair Treatment 10ml: 15p
Vintage metal mini perfume bottle pendant: 50p
Vintage ceramic floral brooch: 50p
Vintage 80s red leather brogues: £3

I'll let you know how the Macadamia Oil does - I've got naturally curly hair thats somewhat dry the day I wash it, and oily by the following day.  I've been told by several people that Moroccan Oil is the way to go, despite the price.  Macadamia Oil seems to be quite similar, so fingers crossed!  Does anyone prefer, or hate, one over the other?

Cream Egg Crackle

The other week I picked up a crackle nail polish at the car boot; W7's deep purple.  I've never really known what to make of the crackle polish thing - I think it looks fab, but I'm very partial to simple glossy dark nails.  I rarely wear light or bright colours anymore.  But, being a beautiful metallic purple and only 50p, I though I'd give it a go.

For the undercolour I used Tangerine by Barry M, and for the topcoat Collection 2000 2in1 topcoat (only 2.99, and I find it much better than some of the more expensive brands).

I like it, reminds me of the Cadburys Creme Egg wrapper!  Takes a bit of practice to get a nice crackle though, a thinner coat does't show the purple too well.  A a topcoat (that I normally don't use, I just tip whatever colour I'm wearing) is a must I found, brings out the metallic of the purple.

Overall though, I'm glad I didn't by a crackle full price.  I like the look, but I certainly won't be wearing it very often, too busy for my nails :)

Sunshine & Shoes

What's happened to the weather!?  Yesterday was a beautiful autumnal day here in the south of England - crisp air, blue skies and such warm sunshine I went out without a coat on! My favorite kind of day, and probably one of the last few this time of year I can get away with a dress :)

Outfit:

White cable cardigan: charity shop (originally Primark), £3.50
Navy floral skater dress: charity shop (originally Matalan), £2.99
Belt: charity shop (originally ASOS), £2
Metal flower earrings: charity shop, £1
Antique sterling silver barrel ring: second hand (originally from a Portabello Road designer) £9
Vintage sterling silver & turquoise Navajo ring: gift from my nan
Mustard tights: New Look, 2.99
Vintage yellow leather loafers: Ebay £2.99

So as is customary on Sundays, I headed over to the car boot at Yeovil Showground, armed with my little vintage totes. I managed to fill them plus two carrier bags (this makes me kind of sad, I don't like using plastic bags).

Favorite finds:

Christine Dior & Lancome black khol eyeliners, both unused. £1 each
Marble pebbels tealight holder. £1.50
Vintage Clarks brown leather loafers. 50p
Leopard-print heeled crop wellies!!! £2

How amazing are those wellies!?  I normally don't go anywhere near animal print, but they were too unusual to pass up...I even had to fight another lady for them!

I'm hoping the weather improves again for the weekend, I feel a carboot selling coming on :)
